The Young Adult Ministry Profession

Young Adult Ministry is a career and ministerial vocation like many others in the Catholic Church. Because of the critical need the Church has for this ministry, it should be treated as professionally as those of religious education, pastoral associate, adult faith formation, youth ministry, campus ministry, pastoral care, liturgist, and so forth.

NCYAMA strongly advises that great care be put into the development of a "young adult ministry" position in a parish, diocese, or organization. It should NOT be a secondary or tertiary thought added to a youth minister or adult faith director's job description. If we continue to operate in this fashion, is it any wonder that young adults are exiting the Church?

NCYAMA has developed the following sample job descriptions for use in parishes, dioceses, or other organizations seeking to reach out to young adults:

Sample Job Description, Diocesan Young Adult Ministry Director (full time)

Sample Job Description, Parish YAM Coordinator (20-40 hrs/week)

Sample Job Description, Parish YAM Coordinator (10-20 hrs/week)

Sample Job Description, Parish YAM Coordinator (5-10 hrs/week)

Sample Job Description, Parish YAM Coordinator (1-5 hrs/week)
